Nourish with Purpose:
Smart Tips for Hurricane Relief Donations
Our mission has always been simple: to make healthy living easier, more affordable, and more accessible for every Jamaican.
While many families recovering from the storm are focused on the essentials, safety, stability, and something warm or familiar to eat, there are also people whose specific nutritional needs remain difficult to meet right now. Those who rely on vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, or other dietary-specific foods often struggle to access them during crises.
This is why Organica is supporting feeding programmes in the affected parishes. We are donating items that support specific dietary needs, options that are often overlooked during times of crisis but remain vital for families who rely on them every day.
As we continue our efforts, many in our community have asked how they can support various relief drives and community kitchens in their own way. With that in mind, we’re sharing a few simple guidelines to help ensure that any contribution, big or small, offers real nourishment and comfort during recovery.
Smart Tips for Donating
1. Choose shelf-stable proteins
Canned beans, nut butters, tuna and sardines provide reliable, long-lasting protein, essential for energy and resilience. These items are practical, widely used and easy to incorporate into simple meals.
2. Include whole grains where possible
Brown rice, oats and whole grain cereals help families stay fuller for longer and provide steady energy. They are versatile staples that support balanced meals, especially when resources are limited.
3. Add fruits and vegetables in accessible forms
Canned or packaged options in water or natural juice supply vital vitamins and minerals. These items travel well, last longer and offer families an easy way to include more variety in meals.
4. Consider hydration helpers
Coconut water, shelf-stable milk alternatives and electrolyte drinks can support hydration when access to clean water, refrigeration or regular routines is disrupted.
5. Select items that are simple to prepare
Easy-open packaging, instant porridges, soups and ready-to-eat meals help families enjoy a meal quickly, even with limited space, equipment or time. Convenience is essential during early recovery.
Wellness Beyond the Table
Nourishment is not only about food. Small comforts, herbal teas, familiar flavours, personal care essentials and feminine hygiene products help restore routine, dignity and emotional wellness during difficult days.
Together, We Nourish the Nation
Organica remains committed to supporting wellness across Jamaica, particularly now. Our contributions to feeding programmes focus on providing dietary-specific foods, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, and other options that can be more difficult to access during crises.
We are grateful to partner with ambassadors like Kamila McDonald, who share our commitment to reaching families with care, compassion, and purpose.
Thank you for supporting one another. When even one family is nourished, our entire nation grows stronger.
